Kitchen Drawer Organizing With iDesign
If you know me,
You know that I love order amongst the chaos that is my beautiful life.
It’s messy like the junk drawer.
Don't you just love a good junk drawer that you can open anytime you are cleaning your kitchen and throw in keys, rubber O rings you and screws you found that you know you are going to need again, broken pencils, ketchup packets and Chick-fil-A sauce that you will need when your toddler won't her chicken and anything else you have emptied from your pockets. It just feels good to get it all off your countertop and hidden in a drawer for no one else to see. There is just something so rewarding about knowing your kitchen is finally clean.....again. Clean again until the next time someone comes in and leaves those dishes in the sink for you if its like the House of Eight.
We all have some kind of junk and we all have some kind of messy clutter in our lives but what happens when the junk and clutter over takes you?
I need organization in my life for the scattered and cluttered parts to feel grounded. Ultimately, I know I am not in control of anything but I can control what I choose to focus on. I can choose what to invest my time in.
To any of my friends out there that deal with messy life and home clutter anxiety...
I highly recommend praying, casting all your cares upon Jesus, and focusing your attention to things that you can actually change. Everything else is outside of your control and not your burden to bear, pass it all on to the burden bearer to shift your way of thinking.
I have been wanting to organize these drawers ever since the first day we moved in and started unpacking all the boxes; they have nearly driven me crazy. I know it probably sounds ridiculous that an unorganized drawer could wreak so much havoc in my mind space... but its legit. My life on the daily is real, it's messy, it's hectic, and it's a beautifully choreographed chaos that is all mine and I LOVE IT!
House of Eight is currently feeling a bit upside down with the added stress of all the preparations going on behind the scenes for the renovations that are getting ready to take place. The Blue House is having to undergo some major necessary repairs and we are definitely feeling the push.
On the bright side, having to stay inside while everyone is getting well is forcing me to pour myself into things I can control. Living in a house with eight humans and five dogs is a bit daunting at times, especially for the faint of heart. Good thing my ticker is strong- The joy of the Lord is my strength!
To begin the process of decluttering and organizing I emptied the contents out of the messy drawers and placed it all on my countertop. Once everything laid in a heaping pile I gracefully sorted it all into sections..... not slinging a single thing.
I decluttered the drawers during the sorting phase of the clean out. It was so satisfying to purge unnecessary baggage. It was most definitely worth the time and effort, just ask the wood planks on the floor or the pulls on the drawer how many times I walked over and opened the drawer just to admire the clutter free accomplishment. It's so fascinating to me how an organized drawer gave me hope and filled me with such peace.
Let’s just see how long it lasts.
Do you have any messy drawers in your life or is it just the drawers in mine?
After I had taken everything out of the drawers and placed it all on the counter, I separated it into stacks while I washed the drawers out...(the drawers under the coffee station were in need of cleaning) I donated what I had multiples of to my girls for their new houses. (More on that coming soon:)
I tried to replace the utensils back in each drawer categorized by what would make the most sense. I tried to place what would be used together for preparation of whatever it would be that we would be preparing at the time.
The clear organizing bins that I used are from Walmart, you can get them anywhere you choose. I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted or needed when I purchased the organizers.
I would advise measuring your drawers before purchasing the bins to save money a trip back to the store or online. I would definitely also recommend getting an image in your mind of the layout and design you are going for; including the clean lines of the bins for aesthetic purposes.
The Home Edit bins are more square and clean, in my opinion and the iDesign are square with a more rounded edge. I didn't do that step but if I would have I would have saved some time and possibly money, although I have plenty of spaces for the remaining bins. I purchased The Home Edit collection with Walmart: (the 6 piece kitchen drawer edit and 8 piece beauty drawer edit) and iDesign bins to layout the best organized pattern for the drawer space. I ended up utilizing only the iDesign bins in these messy drawers. I will be using the Home Edit bins in a project coming up.
(You can also achieve great organization from using the 6 piece Kitchen Drawer Edit and the 8 piece Beauty Drawer Edit. You can mix these two Home Edit systems instead of using iDesign for great results) I added the remaining bins to my silverware drawer.
To achieve the above drawer organization I used:
iDesign clear plastic kitchen drawer organizers(BPA free)
(6) 3.25"x10"x2"
(6) 6"x9"x2"
(4) 6"x15"x2"
I hope this glimpse into my beautiful chaos gives you hope for your real life reels. We are going to make it together; one messy drawer at a time.
Xo,
